Beyond the Form of Movement with the Franklin Method®
“The Franklin Method® changed everything…”
For the past two decades, dancers, athletes, movement teachers, physical therapists, and bodyworkers worldwide have been drawn to The Franklin Method®, expressing a heightened sense of appreciation for their body and how it is designed to move.
If you're looking to bring your movement practice to entirely new level, whether it's Pilates or GYROTONIC® here at the studio or workouts at your health club, barre or yoga classes, take a few moments to learn how these teachings can take you beyond the form of movement and amplify your overall experience.
Or, maybe you're simply asking "What the heck is The Franklin Method®?!" Whatever you're in search of, read on. Explore why this style of movement is making an international impact and how it can change everything...
What is the Franklin Method?
When teaching traditional Pilates and GYROTONIC® at Kinetic MKE, we are employing the Franklin Method® through the use of “dynamic neurocognitive imagery,” dynamic alignment, and embodied functional anatomy. Overall, this method infuses our delivery of Pilates and GYROTONIC® and helps our students "move better, feel great, prevent injuries, and improve performance ( -Eric Franklin)."
Kinetic MKE also offers stand alone Franklin Method® education in both class and workshop format with a unique toolkit of repertoire. Balls, bands, and self touch exercises help students better explore their anatomy, structure, and organic design.
A Brief History
The Franklin Method® was founded by Eric Franklin in the 1980's and was first taught in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. Mr. Franklin co-credits Morten Dithmer, a Franklin Teacher Trainer for the past 15-years, for helping to expand the Franklin Method® to Asia, Australia, Canada, Scandinavia, the United States, and beyond.
Today, Eric Franklin remains a renowned educator, choreographer, dancer, national speaker, and has authored more than 20 books. Needless to say, his genius has made an impact and his method continues to improve lives.
Looking Beyond the Form of Movement
Trey Fry, co-owner of Kinetic MKE, is a Level I Franklin Method® Educator and was directly taught by Eric Franklin, Morten Dithmer, Damian McCann, and other senior FM faculty. Currently in the level II teacher training in NYC, and with level III on the books for 2019, he is only one of two trainers in Wisconsin using these teachings.
Trey also believes The Franklin Method® has enhanced his own way of thinking about movement and improved his performance as a trainer.
“For me, Franklin Method® let me look beyond a form of movement and let me embody it. It was actually a missing piece that let me be better in my body and teach movement more clearly, organically, and in line with the design of the human body. It eradicated a fear-based way of thinking about movement.” - Trey Fry
